Tech Check: Could a texting-while-driving ban happen?

 On this week's Tech Check podcast, Doug Gross, Stephanie Goldberg and Mark Milian discuss a federal agency's proposal that all use of mobile phones while driving be made illegal.

Most folks seem to agree that a law against using your hands behind the wheel -- whether texting or holding the phone up to your ear -- might not be such a bad thing. But they go further, saying Congress should make it illegal to use your phone as a mapping system or even talk with a hands-free device.
Needless to say, many in the tech world thought that goes too far.
We also take a look at Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet. This week, Amazon said it plans to issue a software update to address complaints users have had about things like slow-loading web pages and a screen that displays the last user's activity to anyone who picks up the device.
Of course, all of that hasn't stopped the Fire from becoming perhaps the hottest (sorry) competitor to the iPad, with some analysts predicting that more than 5 million will be sold this holiday season.
