Paul Casey is aiming to win back a place on the European Ryder Cup team for the showdown at Medinah Country Club, Illinois,
Englishman Paul Casey's bid to win a Ryder Cup spot this year has suffered a huge early-season setback after a snowboarding injury ruled him out of action for at least two months.
The world No. 20, who failed to qualify for the bi-annual event in 2010 and was overlooked as a wildcard by captain Colin Montgomerie despite being in the world's top 10 at the time, dislocated his right shoulder snowboarding in Colorado.
Fortunately the 34-year-old, who lost his PGA Tour card in the United States after missing out on a place in the top 125 on the money list, does not require surgery but the injury has come at a bad time, with Casey due to defend his Volvo Golf Champions title in South Africa in two weeks.
"I am very frustrated as I was really looking forward to getting off to a fast start in 2012," he said. "I've always played well in the desert and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is one of my favourite events of the year, so I will particularly hate sitting out that one," he continued.
"The good news is that the experts I've seen say I don't need surgery and, having already started my rehabilitation exercises, I should be back hitting balls in a few weeks."
